2016-2017 Programme
Friday 4th November 2016 History Lab - Planning Future Meetings
In this session we meet to discuss possible directions for History Lab's future during this semester and the next. From intriguing documentaries, academic papers to potential guest speakers, any bright ideas are welcome!
Wednesday 23rd November 2016 History Lab - Excursion to the British Library
We'll be heading to the British Library meeting at 2pm to view the Maps and the 20th Century exhibition. We will meet for coffee afterwards for a short discussion, before departing to allow attendees to make their way to the IHR 18th Century Seminar. For more details see the following link:

Thursday 8th December 2016 History Lab - Presentation from Edward Turner
The blurb: 'Writer and general Sir John Bagot Glubb wrote in the 1970s: "If the present writer were a millionaire, he would try to establish in some university or other a department dedicated solely to the study of the rhythm of the rise and fall of powerful nations throughout the world." 40-years-later Hertfordshire University's newly opened Cliodynamics Lab may have realised his dream. It is the first lab in the world dedicated explicitly to the exciting new research area of cliodynamics. I will suggest how an interested historian might attempt to incorporate the science of cliodynamics into their work with reference to Peter Turchin's Ages of History (2016) as an example of a scientific history book.'
